WEEK 12- 04/23/21
Welcome back to The Drop Guy Weekly Playlist! This week has such a crazy mix of genres, but they go together so well. I have disco, hip hop, pop, indie-rock, and fucking Jamiroquai. Jamiroquai! I hope this playlist puts a smile on your face and makes you nod your head a little bit too. Let’s get it!
What’s your favorite track this week? Hit me up.

N.E.R.D. – HOT N FUN
I didn’t realize how many people didn’t know about N.E.R.D. until I talked to a millennial coworker who had never heard of them. That is unbelievable to me. He knows Pharrell and loves Pharell, but never heard of N.E.R.D. Well, N.E.R.D is the rock ‘n roll project from Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of the mega-star production team, The Neptunes. And it fucking rocks. It’s Neptunes beats but with live instruments and Pharell putting on his best Rock N’ Roll front man act. Check out everything that is N.E.R.D. It’s all top notch music.
PATRICE RUSHEN – FORGET ME NOTS
Yo! This is a jam. Mostly known for being the sample in Will Smith’s Men In Black film, this 1982 track slaps so hard. It arguably has the greatest bass line of all time. I could literally listen to this song on repeat all day long. The claps! The insane bass line! Saxophone! Catchy hook! Did I mention the insane bass solo in the middle of the track?
MADCON – BEGGIN’
I wasn’t sure whether or not to feature the original Four Seasons version of this song, or the hip-hop version from Madcon. They both are amazing. Madcon goes off on this track. This song is so full of energy, and so upbeat. I love it.
PAINTED PALMS – SPINNING SIGNS
“Spinning Signs” is one of my favorite songs of all time. It’s been on my rotation for 10 years now, and I never get sick of it. It’s such a fun song with a catchy hook, banging tom-tom drums, and wobbly synths. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
VIDEO AGE – POP THERAPY
I just discovered Pop Therapy recently and I had a good 48 hours where I was completely obsessed. They are a modern, 80’s synth-pop band. There are a lot of similarities to Chromeo actually.. Super catchy tunes with vocoder voice overs, soft guitar, heavy synths, and dance along drum beats. Check out their entire catalog. It doesn’t get old.
NZCA LINES – OPENING NIGHT
I don’t know a lot about NZCA Lines, but they keep coming up in my Spotify playlists for years. “Opening Night” is from their 2020 album Pure Luxury. This is a straight up late night dance track. It’s the perfect song to come on after having a few drinks at the club.
THE DRUMS – WHEN I COME HOME
I’ve featured The Drums on the playlist before. They actually kick off the beginning of The Drop Guy Weekly Playlist Week 1! Their Southern California vibe is in full effect on “When I Come Home”. This track comes off their recent 2021 release Mommy Don’t Spank Me. The album is super solid. I suggest checking it out if you dig The Drums’ sound.
MADEINTYO – MONEY UP (FT. TORO Y MOI)
This is such a fun hip-hop song. The beat goes super hard and I can’t stop singing the hook. And then Toro y Moi drops a verse?! What a dope song. Turn this one up.
SUNNI COLON – LITTLE THINGS
Sunni Colon’s smooth R&B vocals over the signature sound of Kaytranada’s production is a perfect match. This song hypnotizes me. The booming synth bass line, live hip hop style drumming, and spacey melodies go together so well on this track. Listening to this track puts me in a zone. It makes me want to go down the Kaytranada rabbit hole. You should too.
JAMIROQUAI – YOU GIVE ME SOMETHING
I dare you to say something bad about Jamiroquai! LOL. I’m not exactly sure why I’m featuring this track, other than it’s funky as hell, and Jamiroquai is the shit.
