WEEK 15- 05/21/21
Thank you so much for tuning back into another week of The Drop Guy Weekly Playlist. Im super excited about this week’s playlist. I have some brand new music from some of my favorite artists, along with some old school grunge to get you nostalgic. It’s Corona and lime weather, so crack one open, lay out in the sun, put your headphones on, and sail away into the abyss of your mind.
What’s your favorite track this week? Hit me up.

MYD – CALL ME
I’ve featured French artist Myd, on a previous playlist. He finally released his first full length album, Born A Loser, and it doesn’t disappoint. Myd has an electronic, house party vibe, but his songs have a lot of pop influence in the way that they are composed. The whole album is solid front to back, and is perfect to put on for an outdoor get together with your friends and family. “Call Me” is my favorite track of the release.
THE SHAOLIN AFRONAUTS – JOURNEY THROUGH TIME
The Shaolin Afronauts are an Australian instrumental band, and you might confuse them for Felu Kuti, and that’s a huge compliment. Their African influenced sound puts a smile on my face every time I hear them. This track transports me to a dance party in the streets of an exotic location with dirt roads, beer carts, and lights strung all around to keep the party going all through the night.
KAYTRANADA – GLOWED UP
I’ve featured super producer Kaytranada on multiple playlists. He just has the perfect vibe to his music. No one sounds like him. “Glowed Up” is one of my all time favorite tracks from him. It comes from his debut album 99.9%, and features Anderson.Paak. Try not to love this song. I dare you.
KAYTRANADA – LITE SPOTS
Can you tell by now that I love Kaytranada? Back to back Kaytranada tracks! Let’s go! Another one of my favorites from him, also off the 99.9% album. This is just a dance banger. Have fun.
MR TWIN SISTER – MEET THE FROWNIES
Time for a break on the dance tracks. Let’s wind down with some chill wave. This is the perfect time in the playlist to light up a joint. Things are about to start getting weird. I don’t have much to say about this band and track. I just like it.
DERICK SIMPSON – XING
One of my favorite new artists released a new single from his upcoming album. Every time he releases a new track I am more impressed. His soft vocals, dance drum beats, and deep heavy bass lines are becoming a signature of his sound. When the bassline drops in this track I feel it in my bones. Keep it up Derek Simpson.
MCBAISE – COBRA
Mcbaise is my new favorite artist. There I said it. I’m completely obsessed with this song, and every song he’s released. Not only does Mcbaise create amazing music, but he’s an incredible artist. He has a background in 3D animation, and illustration. Check out some of his music videos. His style is like old Mickey Mouse Steam Boat cartoons but super weird. The new Mcbaise album comes out next month and i’m so ready for it.
SMASHING PUMPKINS – THRU THE EYES OF RUBY
A friend of mine mentioned he was listening to a bunch of 90’s albums recently. When he told me he was listening to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness I immediately dropped everything I was doing and put it on. Holy shit this album is so good. I was taken back to the mid/late 90’s, when I listened to this album on repeat in my basement. It’s almost impossible for me to just pick one track, but “Thru the Eyes of Ruby” is one of the standouts for me. I read Billy Corgan recorded 70 guitar tracks on this! The album still holds up today, unlike some other 90’s grunge albums. Check it out if you’ve never listened to it. It’s pretty intense.
THE DEAD PIRATES – UGO
I can’t really find too much on The Dead Pirates, but I know Mcbaise has something to do with them. Maybe he plays guitar? Anyways I know he did the animation for the music video, and it’s fucking incredible. Watch it. The song is pretty dope as well.
DAYGLOW – SOMETHING
Dayglow’s new album Harmony House came out today! Dayglow has such a cool sound. It’s a mix of 80’s pop, with current indie rock. Check out the album. I love it.
