BEASTIE BOYS – SUCO DE TANGERINA

The Beastie Boys are arguably my favorite band of all time. Most people only know them as a rap group, but they have been releasing amazing instrumental music for decades. This track is off their Grammy winning 2007 album The Mix Up. If you dig this track, I suggest listening to the entire album, and then also checking out their 1996 instrumental album The In Sound From Way Out. It’s a compilation of the instrument tracks they included on their albums up to that point.

HUBBABUBBAKLUBB – MOPEDBART

This is a get up and groove, electronic/indie-pop track from Norweigan band Hubbabubbaklubb. I’m not sure what they are singing about, but it’s a really interesting and fun track. You can actually sing along to the chorus. It’s a really catchy “da da daaaa dada da da”.

CLAIRE LAFFUT – VERITE

This is another track where I don’t know what is being sung about, but it sounds beautiful. Claire Laffut is a French model, artist, and singer. She designed a piece of furniture inspired by each track of her debut album. I’ve never heard of any musician doing that before. She dreams up all of the video and art aspects of her music as well. She describes her sound as “Music from a Belgian kid: childish, sweet like a lemon tart with a meringue topping. I mix this with a small touch of soul and African rhythms, fresh pop filled with bossa nova and jazzy notes. Because I love dancing, and I also love the heat.” (Frankie Dunn/I-d)

GLASS CANDY – CANDY CASTLE

I love this song. Back in the day when I was producing music, my partner Nate and I sampled this track for a song, so it has a special place in my heart. I love the distorted synth bass, and synth horns on this song. Glass Candy is a electro-pop duo from Portland Oregon. This track is off their 2007 album B/E/A/T/B/O/X. I highly suggest checking it out. There’s a Kraftwerk cover on it that is sooooo good.

STILL WOOZY – ROCKY

Still Woozy is singer/song-writer/producer Sven Eric Gamsky. “Rocky” is his latest single. He has yet to release a full length album, but there are plenty of singles to get your Still Woozy fix on. His name is a good description of his music. Hypnotic melodies, funky bass, and lots of vocal overdubs make you want to just chill out when listening to Still Woozy. The production quality is amazing as well. This track definitely calls for headphones.

BLOOD CULTURES – KEEPS BRINGING ME BACK

This song has come up on multiple playlists that I listen to, and every time I hear it, I play it back for a second time. Blood Cultures is a quartet of anonymous musicians. Apparently they always wear black hoods over their heads when appearing in photos. This blurb is from Wikipedia and I love it. As they have explained, their anonymity is crucial to their ethos and intends to “to keep the relationship between the listener and the music as pure as possible.”

ISAAC DELUSION – HOW MUCH

Issac Delusion has an unmistakable singing voice. This is the first song of many that I fell in love with by him. This pop-y, electronic track definitely has a late night club feel to it. For more Isaac Delusion check out his performance on La Blogoteque’s Youtube Channel. Here’s a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_eeKhn3Rek

CUT COPY – HEARTS ON FIRE

This is probably my favorite Cut Copy song of all time. If you don’t know who Cut Copy is, I suggest dropping everything, and go listen to their catalog of music now. I’ll wait…. Cut Copy is an Australian synth-pop band with a spectacularly unique sound. Their live show is also amazing. We saw them in Columbus years ago and it was such an amazing visual, and audio experience. Please go check out the video for this song. It’s an emotional roller coaster. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgpgkI3eMxM

REJOICER – YESTERDAY’S FOREST MAGIC

Rejoicer is Yuvi Havkin from Israel. He’s on Stones Throws Records, home of some of my all time favorite musicians, and is also the founder of Raw Tapes Records. Last week I featured another Raw Tapes artist, Iogi. Rejoicer is one of Yuvi’s many projects. This track sounds like it was recorded deep in the jungles of South America. I can hear the exotic birds in the distance. I will be doing a thorough deep dive into Raw Tapes Records ASAP.

TATRAN – STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER

This is probably the most creative cover of a Beatles song i’ve ever heard. Another artist out of Israel, Tatran is an instrumental progressive rock band that absolutely kills this cover. It’s haunting, slightly spooky, but also kind of has a beach vibe to it. It’s amazing.
